Earthquake!

Friday night about 8pm, we were sitting at home winding down from the day's activities.  Suddenly our house started moving!  It was really rocking & swaying!  A huge earthquake was hitting us!  We all jumped up and ran outside, only to see our car rolling like it was jetting thru the high seas!  Amazing!  Thankfully, after a minute or so the quake was over and we had no real damage - only some broken glasses.  The earthquake was a whopping 7.6 on the Richter scale and hit quite near to us.  The epicenter was some 90 miles off the coast of Guiuan town in Samar island which is only about a two-and-a-half or three hour drive from our house.  It was the highest magnitude earthquake to hit the eastern Visayas in 50 years, but fortunately no major damage and no one was hurt.  Our buildings at Leyte Christian College are mostly OK, just some tearing of the metal roofs on some of the dormitories, and some big cracks in the floors & walls of the main building, which will all have to be repaired.  The important thing is no one around here was hurt or killed.  There was one fatality - a grandmother in Cagayan de Oro City on the island of Mindanao was killed when the quake caused a small landslide which took out her home.  Our students at LCC all gathered for prayer minutes after the earthquake to thank God that no one there was injured, and I'm also thanking Him for that great fact.  Thanks to all of you who expressed concern after seeing the news.  Thanks to God, we are all fine here at LCC.
