Who Are We ?

Project Philippines is a team of approximately 15 workers, both Filipino and American, men and women. It is a 3-fold project designed to reach the lost and bring glory to God in the Republic of the Philippines, a nation of nearly 90 million people in the continent of Asia. The Philippines is an island nation of about 7,100 islands (only about a hundred inhabited).

The first phase of Project Philippines is Leyte Christian College.

LCC was born in the summer of 2007, in a meeting of our team at Tacloban City, Leyte. This great "gateway" city in the Philippines, sitting astride the great San Juanico Bridge which connects Leyte island with Samar island, is a vast, growing commercial city in the heart of the Philippines. It is the capital of the province of Leyte. You may remember Leyte from the events of the Second World War. Here, General Douglas MacArthur fulfilled his pledge ("I shall return") to the Filipinos on Oct. 20, 1944, with the Allied invasion of the Philippines culminating in the rout of the Japanese Army. Our work will be centered in this great city.

We have secured a nice property there on which we might build all phases of Project Philippines:

(1) Leyte Christian College, a preacher training school
(2) a pre-school, elementary school and high school
(3) a children's home for homeless or orphaned children.

We're looking for sponsors and supporters who might share our vision for the Lord's kingdom in the Philippines and lend a hand. We know it's a bold and ambitious plan. It will require lots of hard work. It also will require brothers & sisters in Christ standing behind it, in prayer but also in financial assistance. If that's you, contact us at eastepfamily@yahoo.com. Or write our sponsor congregation at this address:

News

So much to tell you! Construction has begun on the first classroom and administration building at Leyte Christian College! This news dominates our thoughts these days. A contractor has been engaged, and they have been at work now for more than a month! The heavy rains here have prevented them from doing a lot but please view the photos at the bottom of the web page for an update. We are so thankful to God and to all of you who made this possible thru your prayers and your generous giving. We appreciate you so much.
Our daughter Lauren was able to join us for the holidays and spent three weeks with us here in the Philippines. She left to go back to Lubbock Christian University on Jan. 6, where she is a pre-med major and a Dean's List-er. We are so proud of her. She will be marrying her sweetheart, Jordan Amburgey of Rowlett, TX, on June 5.
Other news for our family is that we have moved! We found a larger and better place, and much nearer to the LCC new campus being constructed. This new place is in a gated community with a security guard patrolling the streets. Many Americans live here in this place and it is so quiet and peaceful and quite near to the sea (about a hundred yards). We just love it!
LCC classes have resumed and we are now in mid-term exams. We have almost 40 young people studying with us in order to become Gospel preachers (the men) or school teachers (our young ladies). More will be coming in at the new school year in June, just four months away!
Another baptism to report. Jun Quebec of Tunga was added to the Lord last week as a result of studies by members of our team. Bro Dominador "Jack" Belo baptized him in the fast-flowing river. Amazing: one stroke victim baptizing another. Please pray for our new brother Quebec, that he will remain faithful to the Lord inspire of a family which opposed his conversion.
We want to say Thanks for all the prayers and for all the wonderful financial help that all of you have so graciously supplied to Project Philippines and to Leyte Christian College. How blessed we are because of you! Sorry for the delay in posting, but our new house and the move has kept us so very busy (along with the visit from Lauren).
Blessings to you all for a great 2010!
