Robin and I have just returned from four days at a beach resort on another island, where we were able to relax on pristine white beaches there as well as enjoy some American food. Currently, Leyte Christian College is on its semester break. We resume classes again on Nov. 22. Most of our students (all except five) returned home for their break, or traveled to the homes of classmates or friends.
This past Sunday, Nov. 7, we had more visitors than regular members at our little congregation which meets at the campus. There were almost a dozen children from the local village who came, as well as some older folks from the village. I was privileged to give the sermon, and Nathan led the closing prayer.
There was also a first-ever gathering of all the new Christians in the town of Sante Fe this past Sunday. You may remember that last year, all the LCC students and teachers descended on Sante Fe town for a door-knocking campaign and knocked on every door there. For the past year, there have been a steady stream of baptisms in Sante Fe. Usually these new converts came to Tacloban City and the church which meets there to worship. Occasionally, students and/or teachers would go to Sante Fe and hold worship & Bible studies in members' homes. But this past Sunday, all the saints in Sante Fe gathered in the home of one of the members and finally a new congregation was born. Charlie Sabado preached the first sermon there. Please pray for this little band of disciples and the new congregation there.
Our new classroom/administration building at LCC is coming along nicely. Our builder says no problem for us to occupy the west wing of the building, which contains four (4) large classrooms and is 98 percent complete. This will be such a blessing. We still lack the east wing, but believe the building to be more than 75 percent complete at this point.
Charlie Sabado continues to improve in his medical situation, although he still has a problem with his thyroid gland and swelling there. He will traveling back to Manila in just a few weeks to have a biopsy taken of his thyroid. Please continue praying for Charlie and his family in this situation.
This upcoming semester which begins in just a bit more than a week, we expect an influx of more new students. Our numbers will swell. I will be teaching four classes: New Testament Greek II (3rd year), Old Testament Historical Books II (2nd year), Prison Epistles of Paul (2nd year), and Bible Geography & Archaeology (1st year). Robin will teach two classes: the ladies A.I.M. class and English Literature. We are now starting to get very busy preparing our lessons.
Thanks to all who have helped us realize this dream of Christian education in the Philippines. You, our dear supporters, are the lifeline of Project Philippines and Leyte Christian College. We thank God daily for you!
Who Are We ?
Project Philippines is a team of approximately 15 workers, both Filipino and American, men and women. It is a 3-fold project designed to reach the lost and bring glory to God in the Republic of the Philippines, a nation of nearly 90 million people in the continent of Asia. The Philippines is an island nation of about 7,100 islands (only about a hundred inhabited).
The first phase of Project Philippines is Leyte Christian College.
LCC was born in the summer of 2007, in a meeting of our team at Tacloban City, Leyte. This great "gateway" city in the Philippines, sitting astride the great San Juanico Bridge which connects Leyte island with Samar island, is a vast, growing commercial city in the heart of the Philippines. It is the capital of the province of Leyte. You may remember Leyte from the events of the Second World War. Here, General Douglas MacArthur fulfilled his pledge ("I shall return") to the Filipinos on Oct. 20, 1944, with the Allied invasion of the Philippines culminating in the rout of the Japanese Army. Our work will be centered in this great city.
We have secured a nice property there on which we might build all phases of Project Philippines:
(1) Leyte Christian College, a preacher training school
(2) a pre-school, elementary school and high school
(3) a children's home for homeless or orphaned children.
We're looking for sponsors and supporters who might share our vision for the Lord's kingdom in the Philippines and lend a hand. We know it's a bold and ambitious plan. It will require lots of hard work. It also will require brothers & sisters in Christ standing behind it, in prayer but also in financial assistance. If that's you, contact us at eastepfamily@yahoo.com. Or write our sponsor congregation at this address:
